Making an indelible impression on reggae lovers
Since her remarkable debut at the tender age of fourteen in her native Toronto Reggae roots and culture /lovers rock singer Tasha T with her distinctive vocal styling has left an indelible impression on audiences the world over. From her native Canada, to United States, Jamaica and Africa, the petite and diminutive singer with the big voice delights reggae lovers with sheer enjoyment.
The multi facet lady is a tribute to female determination and drive. Tasha owns her record label “RasVibes Records Inc, She works full time, handles single parent responsibilities for two children, yet she still finds the time to record hit songs and tours the world.
Tasha developed her own unique Sing-Jay/DJ and singing style. Reggae and Rock Steady royalty such as the late Phyllis Dillon, Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths served as her early inspiration for the young aspiring singer. Little Miss Natasha Whyte aka Tasha T would also watch and listen to the DJs/selectors on Road Block International her step-father’s “sound system” in Toronto, Canada.
Tasha has performed on major reggae festival including Reggae Sunsplash, (Jamaica) Reggae Carifest, Irie Jamboree, (NYC) the Annual Toronto International Reggae Festival worked with producers like Syl Gordon of Cell Block Records and Paul Barclay of the Katalys Crew. With mixes from the Maestro Rohan Dwyer of the Groove Box and new mix sensation Romel Marshall of Grafton Studios. She’s been the opening act for the likes of Beres Hammond, Ken Booth, Marcia Griffiths, Maxi Priest, and many more.
She has mastered all three idioms and, for her mastery she’s received multiple awards, critical acclaim and accolades. Among the many honors/awards Tasha has received include;
-Canadian Reggae Music Award for Best Female Newcomer’ (1999)
-Nominated for ‘Best Reggae Recording’ from the Juno Awards year’ (2000) –
Canada’s equivalent to the Grammy’s.
-Top Female Reggae Dancehall DJ’ (2000, 2001, 2002)
-Lifetime Achievement Award from Active Visions’ (2003)
-Reggae Music Achievement Awards for Best Female DJ’ (2007 and 2008)
-Canadian Reggae Music Award Top Producer and Top Female Reggae Dancehall DJ’ (2008)
-Bashment Community Appreciation Award for Single for the year ‘Hold Me’ (2008)
-Reggae Music Achievement Awards for Top Song Writer’ (2008)
- Reggae Music Achievement Awards for Best Female DJ (2009)
With a discography that stretches back to the 1990s, Tasha’s longevity can only be explained by her dedication, versatility and creativity. From chart toppers like the Reggae classic “Win or Lose” which peaked at #7 and remained 22 weeks on the New York Top 30 Reggae Charts in 2003 to “Hold Me” (2008) which stayed in the Canada’s CHRY 105.5 FM Reggae charts for 6 months, to ‘One More Try’ (2010) a George Michael’s cover, that peaked at #5 Ghana’s, West Africa Reggae chart and ‘Missing You Baby’ the winner of Roots FM “the Verdict’ in Jamaica. Tasha T continues to leave her indelible mark as she carves out her place in reggae music history.
